Snow Removal

When inclement weather leaves ice or snow on our streets, the City of Troy’s Public Works Department is dispatched around the clock to make streets safer for motorists.

Crews service the following streets first:

Lincoln Drive
Cherry Street
Main Street
Boone Street
College Street
Monroe Street
Old Cap Au Gris
Third Street
Front Street
Ellis Avenue
Cherry Blossom Way
Travis Boulevard

Subdivision and side streets are cleared after crews address the main thoroughfares.

City crews are cautious when removing snow from streets, and it is important for residents to know that obstructions—such as vehicles parked on the road— could prevent streets from being cleared. Here are some things residents can do to assist crews in their efforts to service streets:

1. Don’t park on the street. If the forecast calls for snow, arrange for off-street parking. You should especially avoid parking on the street when another car is parked across from yours on the other side of the street.

2. Don’t shovel driveway snow onto streets. Residents are responsible for clearing their driveways, sidewalks, and the area around their mailboxes. To avoid having snow redistributed onto your driveway when City snow plows arrive, you should shovel driveway snow to the sides of your driveway.

3. Cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets are difficult to plow and sometimes lack adequate space for snow piling. To give crews the best opportunity to maneuver around cul-de-sacs and down dead-end streets, residents who live on such streets should avoid parking on the street when snow or ice is in the weather forecast.

4. Be cautious around plow trucks.Plow trucks are – or can sometimes carry – heavy equipment. Motorists who share the streets with plow trucks in inclement weather should drive slow, be mindful of traffic signals and stop signs, and allow extra space between vehicles.

The City of Troy is not responsible for plowing county, state or privately-owned streets. The Missouri Department of Transportation is responsible for highways such as 47 and J. For questions regarding snow removal on state highways, call MODOT at 636-528-3112. The Lincoln County Highway Department is responsible for county roads such as Adelhardt. The county highway department can be reached at 636-528-7112.
